Finance Made Easy: Swire Coca-Cola’s Training Animation Videos
The Challenge
Financial literacy is a persistent organizational development challenge — employees understand their individual roles but rarely understand how their decisions connect to the company’s financial health. At Swire Coca-Cola, leaders recognized that empowering employees at every level with basic financial thinking would improve everything from purchasing decisions to operational efficiency choices.
The challenge was making corporate finance genuinely accessible to a diverse workforce of 7,200 employees — many of whom had no formal financial education and would disengage immediately from anything that felt like an accounting course. The training needed to be intuitive, memorable, and directly relatable to the specific work context of a beverage distribution operation.
Our Solution
Ninja Tropic collaborated with Swire Coca-Cola to develop a narrative-driven video series built around an extended metaphor: the financial journey of a lemonade stand. Starting from a single stand selling drinks on a street corner, each video used the lemonade business to explain a core financial concept — revenue versus profit, cost of goods sold, margin management, capital investment — before connecting it back to how the same principle operates within Swire Coca-Cola’s actual business.
Vector-based animations were styled to reflect Swire Coca-Cola’s brand palette and the visual energy of the beverage industry, with character designs and scenarios that resonated with front-line employees and regional managers alike. Each episode was kept under six minutes, designed for viewing during team meetings or individual break-time without requiring a dedicated training block.
The Result
- Company-Wide Financial Fluency: The lemonade stand narrative gave employees a shared mental model for financial concepts that managers could reference in daily conversations — creating a common language for business decisions across the organization.
- Management Decision Quality: Regional managers who completed the training demonstrated measurably improved financial reasoning in operational decisions, validating the premise that accessible financial education translates into business outcomes.
- High Completion Rate: The short-form, narrative format drove completion rates well above industry benchmarks for financial training — a category notorious for low engagement — with employees voluntarily sharing episodes with colleagues.
