People often ask us which is better for eLearning: Live-action or animation?

Live-action video involves the videoing of actors and actresses and potentially sets and props. In the education space, this typically is just a speaker in front of a greenscreen. Having an actor that resembles your avatar allows for a better connection with the audience and can allow
for more content. Microlearning animation works well in conveying abstract ideas but it generally takes longer to produce

The thing is, you don’t have to choose between the two. In fact, Ninja Tropic recently worked with our client, Sociometrics, on a hybrid approach. It doesn’t have to be challenging to determine which option will best tell your story and engage your learners. We were also able to make the most sense given the budget and time constraints.

This eLearning course taught teachers how to prevent classroom bullying. The videos had to resonate with a younger audience and have engaging imagery. Live-action video is great, but it can feel a little stale or static. That’s why we interspersed Sociometrics’ live-action narrator with stock footage, graphics, bullets, and animation.

Ninja Tropic was able to make 20 videos relatively quickly with this hybrid approach. Video can be difficult, time-consuming, and expensive.
